We Are The Church: Summary of Our Roles and Responsibilities In The Process of Calling For Our Next Bishop in The Diocese of Southwest Florida

The decisions and actions we undertake as members of the one holy, catholic and apostolic body of Christ in the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida, will not only affect us in the here and now but in generations to come. In addition, these will also have ripple effects on how we conduct ourselves as Christians locally and beyond.

Our concerted efforts of aligning with the will of God towards the process of calling for a bishop coadjutor in our diocese is no exception, and no small task for all of us, the laity and the ordained. It is a responsibility that should not to be taken lightly!

Reviewing this website is a good starting point for this journey. Let us join hands and be connected with one to the other as one community of believers. In synch with the standing committee, bishop coadjutor search committee, and other working groups let us discern our role and related responsibilities on this particular calling keeping in mind that Jesus is the provider of all our needed resources and the perfecter of this process:

Be in the know; begin to be actively engaged and educated with the why, what, who, and how of the process

Inspire others especially the members of your congregation to do the same

Study the Scriptures that relate to our journey and purpose to include, but not limited to: 1 John 4:1; 1 Cor 12; James 3:13-18; Philippians 1:9-10; Timothy 3:1-3; Titus 1:6-9, 2:1-3

Hope and work toward oneness and communion with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Scriptures and human authority through The Constitution and Canons of the Diocese of Southwest Florida (Article XVIII) and of The Episcopal Church

Open and maximize the use of platforms provided for consultation, for healthy discussion

and deliberations, and for sharing input, either virtually or in-person

Pray unceasingly for our diocese, for each other and especially ask God’s blessings and presence in every step we take as we journey towards discovering whom God has already chosen as our upcoming diocesan spiritual leader.
